A noose around the neck
The collar that used to wear a tie
Symbol of conformity and obedience
Answering to another
But the shackles have been broken
Freedom has been found
In the self-expression
No longer the dictate of school days
Graduation marked
Out to the big wide world
To be, to see, to say, to me
No suppression of identity
For the world holds many
And there is a place for me
Not at the end of someone else’s leash
But somewhere free
