Physical Pages to Touch

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “the last piece of mail you received.” Talk about the subject of the last piece of physical mail you received, i.e. a gas bill–talk about gas, not the bill itself. Have fun!

Physical mail
Paper and envelopes
Something rather strange
In this time and day
With speed of electronics
A package is passed down
Receiving the text message
Or email in our inbox
My children’s bank statements
The last that I received
Must have forgotten to tick
The little box to save trees
Our new house
Not even a post box in sight
It’s not the done thing
Houses too small to keep
Trails and records of our life
Ink fades and paper weathers
But I still love a touchable book
And scrapping the life we’ve had
Albums of memories
To pass down the line
Time for our parchment
To come from renewable hemp
To keep the pen pal letter alive
The beauty of script
Scrolling across the page
Flowing and rolling
With emotion etched in black
Release from the mind
Through the twirling of hand
Writing book or letter
To someone

  1. This is wonderful. I so miss the physical letter. There is a school program, I think it is called The Great Canadian Mail Race(could have the name wrong), but you’d be surprised how excited kids are to get a physical letter and to write back!
