Sorry

What paltry offerings this word has
It cannot repair a broken heart
Nor right the wrongs you’ve done
It slides smoothly off the lips
Too often to be taken seriously
It is forced upon children
Who regret not what they’ve done
But follow parental instruction
To repent unwillingly to someone
Perhaps a little more thought
Should be placed before one’s actions
To ensure that sorry is not required
When all is said and done
