Childhood Leaves

           Shhhhwh
         Shhhhwh
                 Shhhhwh
It is the wind that whispers to me
Calls for me to come out and play
            Shhhhwh
                      Shhhhwh
Shhhhwh
But I ignore it as a disrupting noise
Disturbing all the busy I must do today
  Shhhhwh
          Shhhhwh
I run from this to that, waving it away
For nothing should distract me from task
        Shhhhwh
I have a long list that must be done within this day
And will not allow myself to be swayed
                        Shh…
And just like that I’ve rejected the cooling breath
Calming the chaos I am creating in this way
Forever silenced the quiet of the curious child
That would have run to the joy of that breezy playmate
Tossed the autumn leaves with carefree abandon
And listened to the wise words carried on that air
