Dreams of Spring Hope

Leaves drifting to the ground
Taking my hope with them
Bare the trees like the chambers in my chest
They beat an inharmonious rhythm
Branches knocking in the wind
Beginning to freeze with autumn’s departure
Icy fingers of frost chilling my emotions
Waiting for the blast of cold to numb me completely
To the arrogance and recklessness of leaders
Sworn for the people but taking for themselves
Empty boughs in the blow of their greed
With winter’s disrespect for the warmth
Blatant daylight robbery of the green
No longer feeling the need to hide
I dream of a miraculous hibernation of healing
For a nation that is desperately reeling
To wake refreshed and hopeful for the future
A blooming spring of abundant opportunity
