Sweethearts

In the pink blush of the shy young girl
Hides an attraction she can’t name
It is not a repeatable franchise product
But a special order for one young man
Also taken by this unfamiliar feeling
The quiet stirring of something growing
Secreted smiles and glances unseen
A language that only they ‘speak’ to one another
But neither can admit for fear of rejection
Lack of reciprocation a thunder cloud hung
Though it never comes to pass
It delays any possible forward motion
Until one or both can ignore it long enough
To make a move or say a word
And when lips touch gently in enquiry
All fears melt away when the answers are heard
This magnet is both attractive and attracted
Where they meet in the middle
To discover and explore these things
