Be Honest

Hidden behind a whispering hand
Your magnanimous words
Cried out as fake in gossip talk
For they never reached your eyes
Floated loudly on the wind
For ears to hear but no one to feel
Empty as the rivers of a drought
They dry and crack hearts open
I’d rather that you keep them
Than carelessly speak platitudes
Of what you think
You are expected to say
For I deal preferably in honesty
No matter the pain
