Holder of the Key

On a foundation of tatters
Heart shredded and torn
I’ve closed it off to any other
Locked and bolted the chambers
For if they couldn’t love me
How can I think to be loveable?
Cold, distant and irate
I’ll take on casual acquaintances
Where true feelings do not play
But I cannot love anyone
Because I’ve locked it away

I want to tell you to open the doors
For those that didn’t love you
Weren’t the right ones
They were there to teach you
To recognize true love when it comes
You need to know the difference
Understand the gift of give AND receive
Know that you are worth it
Be treasured and adored
There is that special one for you
The one who holds the key
