Remember those days
When butterflies flittered
Summersaulted and fluttered
Around in your stomach
Set to flight by the toss
Of a brief secret glance
Across the playground grass
Not wanting to call attention
To any possible interest
To promote corridor gossip
Or recharge speculation’s tongue
In the schoolyard of shyness
And easy embarrassment
Where dispersion of ridicule
Was the ultimate goal of the day
