Dying Power

In the patterns of the failing beeps
I find my headache
Batteries of imaginary living
Used too often their lifespan diminished
The last shrill cry announcing death
Silence
Until the generators roar to life
In a few varied locations
They provide light in this regular dark
Now utilized sparingly
In the exorbitant cost to create their fumes
Strangling life with all of the other
Feeling like a chopping block
Waiting for the news of each day
To see what more is being removed or reduced
Progress an ambiguous question
For too many are looking to better yesterdays
And dark dying tomorrows
