The days crossed off
It is steadily approaching
Though I’ve lived each one
The mind warps surreal
A new age is dawning
The years counting on
Cheeks flush warmth
Mid-life is behind
Never the fortune teller
I could not have known
This would be my life
With its experiences
Time once far in the distance
Is arriving forthwith
Marching ‘til who knows when
Mine to live
As long as the string is
And change as I see fit
Replacing crosses with colour
Artfully decorating my days
