Climbing a Soapy Rope

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “rope.” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!

Soap on a rope
Give them enough to hang themselves with
Tied to this tree of life with threads of hemp
Bound together by the bond we’ve plaited
Fortified by a million threads of memories made
We weave this road together today and tomorrow
Through the mountains and the flooded valleys
And wash their mouths out for their lies and bad words
Soap on a rope
My decisions are hung with so much history
It is a slippery slope we slide this life of mystery

    1. Hi. I believe poetry means whatever it does to the reader. I wasn’t sure where I was going when I started writing it, but it does have a few personal lines. The mouthful of soap bubbles came from thoughts of parents – not mine – threatening to do that to stop their kids from swearing. My youngest daughter likes to remind me that I used a dot of chilli sauce. I don’t remember that, but sounds like she’ll never forget it. 🙂 There are also a lot of lies floating around in the world today unfortunately. With stream of consciousness you got to write what comes to mind without editing. Soap on a rope came first for some strange reason. But some days life feels like climbing a slippery rope and getting nowhere – not quite the literal soap on a rope.
Hope you’re having an amazing weekend. Thanks for stopping by.
