In a darkness where I couldn’t see my hand in front of me
In an eardrum-shattering cacophony of unusual silence
With no mirror to see a self-loathing reflection
I found you
The time swamped in this quagmire of rattled emotions
I got my first opportunity to look at you and really see
Free of any influence or attempt to please those around
The standard view of a girl turned woman, but not feeling it
This depth, fathoms that I’d never ventured to before
In the quiet whispered words directed where to search
Without suggesting what it was that I was looking for
And what I found was not an adaptable, flexible mannequin
But a versatile, magical being with a soul of stardust
Who could be whatever she wanted to be
But needed to stop being what everybody else wanted
And completely embrace what she found inside herself
And never stop searching and discovering
What I found inside myself
Me
