Love as a Teenager

Dribbles of hope and sunshine
Are all that remain of her
The young girl that I used to be
Innocent and trusting
Until the whole world
Turned on its head
The day a boy entered my vision
And it was no longer ignored
The emotions were different
The smile hid a deeper message
And just as suddenly
Life spattered across my windscreen
And everything was tainted and blurred
And I withdrew from any ideas
Of relationships beyond friends
Of growing up
Because it hurt
Those first butterflies
That were squashed
