Wishing Laughter Again

Will Santa make it this year
His travels illicit across the curfews in place
No lustre to the magic in many a home
Happy for the year to be wrapped and stowed
And to those houses I wish the biggest gifts
Of love, peace, and compassion
That they may find their laughter once more
Beyond the empty spaces and the missing smiles
Through the struggles and the difficulties
May the strength of our nation and its humanity
Be a soft pillow for their weary heads
And may it usher in hope and opportunity
On the musical notes of the new year
