Building a Castle From Doubt

You can’t intimidate me with your threats
Of failure and embarrassment of great magnitude
A life of misery and second-rate citizenship
I’ll have that if I listen and pay attention to you
Forever a maudlin mess of indecision and a fear to try
Languishing instead of living these days of my life
I may hover a few days in your morbid decaying space
But when I’ve had enough
I’ll reach deep into my constantly mended little pocket of hope
To grab golden threads of glorious sanguine light
Plait and weave to form a bond of strongest rope
To pull myself from your downward dragging force
Bind you fast to the pyre of permanent destruction
Ignite your dissolution to historic ashes of my being
And use them in the mud of my tempered building bricks
To create a fortified castle for my confidence
