Build Self-Reliance

Are we to become layabouts
Imprisoned behind sharply drawn lines?
Walls of segregation built in the clay of fear
Do hidden, haughty motives lurk unseen
Let us not dwell on querying the unknown
Nor speculating and casting shadows
But rather fling the mud to the wheel
Put our shoulders to the grindstone
And our ears to our own business
Work and mould the terracotta earth
To that which we need for ourselves
A thing of beauty, of useful practicality
Put our erudition to the growth of community
The development of home and locality
To the benefit of our people
Let us build it for ourselves
