Repairing Shadows

Through the bars of a guardian’s cage
Your x-ray vision could reveal
Scabbed over scars and wounds reopened
At this self-examination and shadow work
Scratching and digging through bygone days
Resentments held firmly in place
Anchored by the fixed belief of wrong and right
Anger and bitterness held like a life preserver
But none of these things contributing
To any kind of celebration of life
Only gouging deeper crevices and holes
Harder to fill and repair
Until forgiveness and release are chosen
The damage will rise to the surface
And blame will always be the reason
Living never the desired result
