Breaking the Surface

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “hope.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

All thumbs and fumbling my way through life
Curve balls ricocheting through the abyss
Of facts and fiction and everything in between
Trying desperately to figure out what’s true
Who I am being based on what I know
At this time or that and changing the next minute
Because the ground of knowledge is shifting
Tidal waves of inconsistencies coming up for air
Reaching for the azure skies and drowning me
My self-image lost in the debris once again
What do I see in my reflection on foamy waters?
Nothing and nobody that I seem to be acquainted with
She’s changing and adapting with every new discovery
Too busy absorbing all of the information to consider
Has it been tinted and tainted with other’s intentions?
Bias unintended or expertly manipulated
Grasping and clutching toward the surface
To break free of the powerful undertow of belonging
Reaching for the sliver of light, the last hope
Fighting for survival of being someone
Until I learn to float on top in the warmth of the sun
Relinquishing my weapons and my fists
Surrendering to the journey of finding out
And celebrating my being as I am
The soul that is the undoubtable living beating me
