Suppressing Sigh

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “contains ‘igh.’” Find a word that contains the letters “igh” in that order and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Abdominal surgery has kicked me in the butt harder than I expected and healing is slower than I’d hoped. I’m opening my eyes to the lesson of patience and self-care and giving my body the time it needs – but it isn’t easy to sit and wait for others to do things. Learning in the Universe’s classroom of life, every day.

A sigh whispers over my lips
And I cannot stop its escape
As I gently lower my body
To a simple sitting position
Not wishing to reveal my pain
Struggling, something that I hide
Never wishing to complain
For mine is a temporary difficulty
Which will heal with a little time
But I defy the Universe’s shout
Commanding my body to rest
And in the defiance I have no choice
I am forced to take a breath
Accept the help all are offering
So I try not to sound my defeat
Sometimes we need to take
The many outstretched hands
And offer one to ourselves
Give the abundant care and love
That we constantly shower on others
To the one we see in the mirror
Deserving of their own attention
Deserving of time for healing and rest
