Hope and Faith

His arm draped over my shoulders
Protection of my own antimacassar
Saved from the stains and friction
Of a harsh and unkind world
Vigour sucked to a lackadaisical shell
By constant barrage of stress and strain
The unknown, heavy with fear
A test of the human tensile strength
And the outermost boundaries
Where the spirit begs to fade
Out of this struggling existence
Lacking in hope and possibilities
A box like a drawstring pulled tight
Barely able to move and stifling
A future untold and unimagined by most
Flailing to balance the precarious beam
Of living in the moment and having faith
That tomorrow will rise triumphant
No more unexpecteds will steal sleep
And we can provide and protect
He is the reminder of my safe space
Harbour to locate my dreams
Sanctuary for a temporary respite
From the attack of darkness and shadow
To recharge my magical belief
In the power of good and positive outcome
A stronger, more loving earth

  1. My favourite part
“Where the spirit begs to fade
    Out of this struggling existence
    Lacking in hope and possibilities
A box like a drawstring pulled tight”
