Don’t Make Idols

Don’t make an idol of you or me
Don’t look up to but look within
Because the first will stress you out
To stand up to
The expectations of fraudulent perfection
And the latter will ultimately disappoint
Because they are not meant
To be living their lives
To stand up to
The height of the pedestal
That you’ve placed them on
The goal is to be the best we know how
And better when we can
Don’t make an idol of you or me
Let idol be the fallacy
And you and I authenticity
