Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nerve.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Sparkles like the twinkling of fairy dust
Nerve endings short circuit the pain
Of a heart in quandary at where it stands
At a love feared lost in the noise
Not even years of happy existence
Can comfort and assure it remains
For growth and change run their course
Some will long for the connection of youth
Resistant to inevitable maturity of age
Others will celebrate their longevity
When we are met with a silent refrain
We know not the vines of their thoughts
Do they bare beautiful fruit or tangle
And strangle the life of once known
Adoration, affection and certainty
Tenderness of the human touch
Possibly turned to responsibility
Obligatory duty of the sworn vows
Or mere complacency in a status quo
That they are unconscious of its tilt
Oblivious to the forest that has grown
Completely out of control
Unweeded, untended and dying
As the excruciating agony
Dulls to a nonchalant ache
And the nerve perishes
Before clarity could have it saved
