Gnarly wooden arms stretched out
To embrace me when I need
Sit with me and my runaway thoughts
Offering silent and stable support
A permanent place of sanctuary
To disappear from the troublesome world
In quiet searching contemplation
For the answers to life’s difficult questions
To the meaning of my very existence
Always warmly welcoming
Weathered or sanded smooth
You leave no splinters under my flesh
As I drop my problems on your slats
No judgements as we share the gentle breeze
Keeping my back straight up
And stopping my fall even when I bow my head
To water your grass with my salty tears
Of confusion and overwhelming frustration
You’re always there for me
And I thank the tree that birthed you
