Simply Glorious

I’m saying goodbye to the woman in the mirror
The one that can only see faults and failures
Only the outside of me
She knows the dreams that lie unfulfilled
And adds them to the disappointment she sees
I am no longer that little mouse quietly sneaking there
Nor the roaring lion that everybody must bear
I am a calm and placid me that you take, or you don’t
I’m neither happy nor sad about it
It is what it is, and I no longer bow to anyone
I stand tall in my own ground, nourishing my roots
For I am important enough to warrant the time
Special enough to take great care of myself
And I’ll do it, I’ll do it all
Don’t be afraid, or wish me ill
If you can’t take me putting myself first
No longer forgoing my happiness to please others
Then I’m afraid you won’t stand me any longer
Because this woman reflecting back at me
Is doing just that, standing up for herself
Isn’t it about time and a simply glorious thing?

  1. It’s very important to be selfish every once in a while; if none of us were, we wouldn’t survive. Never any harm in looking out and making sure YOU are doing okay. Very nice piece this is 🙂
