Lost Heart

Did you lose my heart
Or don’t you carry it anymore?
Was it a conscious decision
To drop it off alongside the road?
Do you even know where you left it?
Do you even care, of did you ever?
It’s not a misplaced knick-knack
That I tossed your way
I bet a little piece of my soul on you
No matter what I was told
I’m sorry you proved them right
I’m sorry I lost that wager
But most of all
I’m sorry that I lost my heart
To a lying cheat
Who took all my trust with it
And now I’m left guarded
Untrusting and in doubt
That anyone can truly love me
Because I’ve been duped
I fell for the smooth charm and flirtation
And I’m not going there again
