That we travel each year
Making wishes that the next
Is better than the last
Admiring the glistening one
That circles our finger
In promises to one another
We vowed to our dreams
For a life that sparkles
With joy and happiness
Yet it is feeling more
Like a ring of rope
Squeezing tight
Around our fragile necks
The plans of our youth
Faded like the morning fog
Burned by the bright light
To a much-charred reality
That we can encircle
With the energy of the moon
Revitalize and revive
Make it all anew
For the ring around today
On the calendar of passing time
Is hope and a beginning
We choose what to do with
