It began with fraying edges
Forgetting one thing here
Or another there
An appointment or birthday
Then it unravelled a little more
Frenzied dashing
From one thing
…
To the next
…
And the next
…
No time to catch a breath
Still the tough exterior endured
Pretence beyond
The hysterical interior
Which knew
That things were falling apart
Only once it had all come undone
Could there be no more façade
Life lay in a pile at their feet
And they could no longer ignore
The rope that bound them
Rescued them and caught them
Was human after all
They had pushed and taken for granted
Too long and too many times
Would they help stitch together
That which they had contributed
To pulling to pieces?
