Don’t Say Anything

Unconsciously dragging ourselves
Doing the perfunctory chores of life
Music missing from our steps
The song gone from our voices
Grey days even in bright sunshine
Our hearts can’t seem to rise
Gigantic effort for the tiniest flutter
But like a boulder it won’t lift
‘Just get over it’
Does little to help the struggle
We’re already feeling like failures
We don’t need this confirmation
Of what is in essence, just your opinion
We’re trying our absolute best
With all the energy we currently have
And we can’t see that it is enough
So listen to what your mother said
For if you can’t say anything nice
Don’t say anything at all
Because you’re not wearing our shoes
Living our life
Nor hearing the voice that we fight
The weight that we battle
The anchor in our chest
And you’re unready for the task
If you can’t even understand
