Eaten whole
Consumed to the bones
From the mind
Of my last childhood days
I pull the pictures of an idyllic life
The five year plan
And then the longer one
I was ready to glide through
Let everything happen perfectly
A river without rapids
No potholes in my road
On my beautiful destination
Artist’s impression
Of how it must be
And then it wasn’t
Didn’t happen that way
The paint dripped
Road detoured
And suddenly I’m lost
Melancholy ravaged
By what isn’t
What didn’t happen
What I didn’t achieve
Forgetting anything that I did
Because this creative version
Is different

We never know what we “might have done” if we’d taken a different route — but such is life. Your header is amazing! If you can do that kind of artwork, don’t be too sad. 🙂

Artwork is courtesy of Pixabay, but thanks. Yes, there are many different possible iterations of life, many dependent on choice
