Holding Dreams

I resign my dreams and wishes
To wisps of cloud blown by the wind
Moving further out of reach rapidly
Dispersing to odd lines traced in the sky
My heart and passion taken with them
Gaping hole of exhaustion and loss
The only things left behind in this body
An empty shell of existence with no goal
The mind fighting for leadership
Logic and practicality the victors
Of the spoils which are my life
Creativity drowned in its naivety
Flooded by the ‘what if’ of the ego
Protecting against possible failure
Preventing the prospect of pain or embarrassment
But with it died the joy of accomplishment
The attainment of a desire longed for in the blood
While in consideration the voice must speak up
“You’ve done the right thing”
But have I?
The agony unavoidable, in failure or attempt
My heart cries for a shot
My head launches compelling argument against
