Who’s Driving

In a white mist the world fades to oblivion
Hyper focused on the damage of my soul
All I cannot possibly dream of accomplishing
And all that I have not succeeded in doing
A graveyard of regret weighs heavy on my chest
My ego controlling this spiral into the shadows
Not to boast about, support or uplift my sagging frame
But to remind me of my failings and shortcomings
Drive home with the force of dogged determination
Comparison and competition burning holes
In the sensitive, delicate lobes of my heart
Criticism and deprecation the loudest booming voice
To do better, be better and to strive
For this job is far from done
Purpose still to be fulfilled, and my best self to be met
