Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “couch” Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!
I have done a lot of couch surfing this week as I recover from laparoscopic surgery. It is amazing how far technology and medicine have come that doctors can make 4 little holes in your abdomen, watch the camera signal they send into that space and cut cysts away and examine what is going on inside your body. I’m very grateful for it, because without this I would have another scar (2 Caesar scars attest to my previous theatre time) across my belly and my stomach muscles would have to grow back together again. That would mean being out of action for 6 weeks with no driving my children to their afternoon sports. I’ve done a lot of sleeping and I can definitely stand behind the healing benefits of rest. I usually aim for natural healing where I can, but modern medicine is sometimes the route to go and it helps when you have caring doctors.
Open arms it receives my battered body
Its soft bosom a place to lay my head
To stare unthinking and mindlessly
At the screen flashing pictures before me
To rest my weary, aching limbs
Or to gather with my family
To talk
To laugh
To feel loved
My couch catches me
When I fall
From happiness or pain
