Love of a Mother

A solid hard rock
Of soft crushed velvet
I never knew
The struggles that she hid
Swallowed down
In protection of her family
I never knew
Her strength
An unknown secret
In the lies that she kept
For the love of her children
I never knew
How amazing my mother was
With faults like we all have
She let us believe
The greatness in others
But not the truth in her
I never knew
And it may be too late
But I send my respect
To the hereafter you bless
