We Are Equal

Wings of a butterfly
A beating human heart
Finest colourful china
Paper-thin musical crystal
Delicate and fragile flower
Guarded from possible danger
Guarded from possible opportunity
Caged by steel bars of protection
Caged by steel bars of control
Seen with eyes of limited purpose
Seen with eyes of lustful entitlement
I never belonged to my father
I will never be your property
In the war of the genders
I will surprise you
Shock you to the core
With the strength that I have
For it lies not only in the physical
I am as hard as a diamond
Soft as a ball of pink candyfloss
Proud to be woman
Not a weaker sex
