It was a rosy posy
They gave me for Mother’s Day
White and pinky-red on one bud
The marvel of nature
To produce such a beautiful thing
And I marvel at me
To produce such thoughtful beings
So blessed with so much love
At first I thought of ring-o-rosies
But mine is not so very sad
As the rhyme of terrible times
The petals began to hang
And I, wishing to keep the memory
Chucked out the fading green
Saved the soft coloured flowers
Dried them to a crisp
Added lovely lavender oil
For these new combinations
Have lost their wonderful aroma
In the meddling to create
Unusual and special combinations
So perhaps less of nature
And more of human intervention
That now lies in the bottom
Of my favourite flower vase
