Begun to Thaw

Presented on golden platter
Freely available to others
I gave them my heart easily
Put it forward almost pleading
That they take it and care
Buried beneath many feet of snow
Encased in crystal solid ice
Numb and frozen block
My heart unavailable to myself
But years of chipping little pieces
Frosted back and chiselled again
My winter has begun to thaw
I’ve shed the sludge of salty water
For myself and my love
That which I could not give to me
I hold now most closely
Worthy and valued
My heart beats for me
