Hunting for Hope

Will I find you behind the dark clouds before me?
Can I see beyond the thunderstorm raging in my heart?
I cannot skimp on the dosage that I need of you
For the shadows in my eyes are wells of unshed tears
You, the resolution that I’m searching for
Struggling to distinguish between sadness and depression
Feeling like I’m on a loop, continuously returning to this pit
Possibly of sticky black tar that does not let me loose
Energy and will to look much longer, fading faster than I’d like
Seemingly an enigma, phantom of my imagination
For when I think you’re finally within my grasp
Like slate-grey smoke tendrils from a burnt-out flame
You slip through my fingers and waft right away
To begin the pursuit all over again
