I shy from your cantankerous mood
Tiptoeing over the silent freeze out
Cringe at banging and slamming
Frustration and anger flash past
Your face returns to morose contemplation
I balance on the cliff of fight or flight
But years of experience keep me quiet
Waiting for the hushed storm to pass
For normality to find us again
A smile and a joke to replace the sour
That I currently hide away from
