Fragile Cord

Hung on fragile filigree
A wisp of wind to break
The tenuous cord attached
Between I and my confidence
Child of my unskilled architecture
Built to stand precariously
On external validation
Destroyed with a word misspoken
Shattered glass, splintered to the earth
Crumpled under boots of ignorance
Fractured self, compounded
By the lacking necessity of esteem
To rebuild that which is needed
To rebuild itself
But actions, no matter how slight
Slowly, the practice required
For faith to be restored
Or put in place that never was
That which says, “I am!”
“I’m here”
“And I am strong!”
