Not Singing to Me

The cadence of your voice
The meter of your words
Had me hooked from the start
Hung on every syllable
Dreaming on the stars
So utterly beautiful and romantic
Until I discovered
These were about another
I fell from those stars
And shattered to the ground
The twinkling dust
Now a spluttering cough
For you sang the song
To share your feelings
But they weren’t for me
Perhaps one day I’ll find a love
Who will make poetry about me
