What We Remember

On the tape of the mind we record
Our most cherished memories
Two lenses to document events
Available for video playback
Whenever we should want
But then…
The tape seems worn
Doesn’t recall all the details
Sometimes none at all
A few imbedded images
Loop on permanent repeat
Like nothing else ever happened
In a long lived life, filled
With happenings and recollections
The transcription of current times
Falters and fails
No yesterday or today imprinted
Time lines shuffled
In the passages of thought
Others look on in sadness
When we…
And forgetful
Our slipping clarity
Becoming part of their remembrance video

  1. This is BRILLIANT Debbie. How original. I struggled all day with this word and came up with nithing. You are a true poet. Love it!

    1. Oh wow! I’m blushing at your kind words. I struggled as well, but then I just sat and wrote whatever came to mind and got out of my own way. It is amazing how we stop ourselves because we question and edit everything we think. Thank you for reading and I’m very glad you liked it.

      1. I know what you mean Debbie. I don’t know why, but the word “video” just turned me off! Oh well….Better maybe tomorrow!
