Your Umbrella

In the rain pounding down
In the sun beating down
When you fear the thunderstorm
When you sweat the heatwave
Through all conditions
I will be your umbrella
Protect you as best I can
Shield you from the elements
From all that I can
I will provide you shelter
A safe haven to call home
But I cannot live this life for you
I cannot save you the experience
That life has in store for you
I will be your shoulder to lean on
Your arms to cry in
For I am your mother
Always in your corner
By your side when you need me
But I’ll tell you when you’re wrong
I’ll let you learn for yourself
Because I wouldn’t truly love you
If I took all your living for you
