That Kiss

I licked my lips and swallowed hard
His adams apple bobbed
A mirror of my anxiety
Could this work?
Could there be fireworks?
Slowly we edged closer
Careful not to scare
Checking for silent consent
It wasn’t hurried nor our first date
We’d asked questions, showed interest
And worked our way shyly to this point
Both looking for connection
Not frivolous with feelings of the heart
Seemingly choreographed for perfection
He tilted left as I leaned right
Feather-soft velvet comfort was found
Gentle pressure in the folds of warm lip gloss
Broken ice suddenly melted
By a surge of hot passion ignited
Spicy flavour of a curry supper and a little magic
Left lips tingling and wanting more
