Sometimes Silence

This morning my mind was invaded by this: “Words can only do harm.”

I wasn’t thinking of anyone who’d hurt my feelings with what they’d said and I hadn’t heard this song in eons. In fact, I was sending love across the energywaves to friends who are going to say their final goodbye to a loved one today. So there I was singing the song, wondering where these words came from. I was also a bit miffed by these words – anyone see the irony? I’m a poet and writer, what am I supposed to do without words? Start painting? Is there a market for very, um… unique abstract art?

I think these words come as a message from the Universe and being a scribbler I don’t believe that they are always meant for me. I’m here to share in the hope that the words gifted to me will help others, even if it’s just one. Here are my hopefully helpful words for today.

Have a fantastic day and please drop me a message and tell me what you think about these random thoughts that pop in.

Rubbing my gold-flecked tigers eye
I wait for the words to come
To whom can I be of help today?
Balm for aching hearts and bodies
Calming peace for the anxious minds
Water for raging infernos of negativity
Air for the embers of life-purpose passions
Earth for grounding and a touch of reality
Fire for releasing that which no longer serves
Love for all to feel and know their worth
And sometimes silence and a listening ear.

Gently she kneaded with the heel of her hand
Loving the change from sticky to soft cushion
Airy and light white flour, salt, water and yeast
Mixed and moulded with tender care
Wrapped in warmth to help it grow
Once again respectfully massaging
For flavour, aeration and texture
Careful not to leave it overworked
To rest again one final time
Before expanding in the heated embrace
Sliced fresh, dripping original butter
To be licked and lapped up
Taking a bite, she sighs such pleasure
Oh, to do that which you love
And allow your passion to create ecstasy.

Unseen Love

Unseen Love

The love of a parent is often unseen
Hidden in the shouting and yelling
Of clean your room and do your work
Many an “I love you” can be found
In the battles we constantly wage
Continuously defeated, raising the flag
Surrender the only path we see to peace
If need arises the flag will be dropped
Arms taken up to continue the skirmish
Though we contend the protected themselves
They are oblivious to our end game
When functioning, contributing adults
Fly from the nest to make their own
We smile with pride for a fight well won.

Compare Not

Compare Not

I call myself a poet, yet I struggle to believe
For many times that which comes forth from me
Seems such nonsense and prattle
My intent to paint exquisite pictures with words
Often falling short of the target that I desire
The reading of another’s work
Has me spiralling off course completely
Giving up the pen and keyboard for all eternity
On reading that which I have written long before
I can acknowledge my mistake
It matters not that I think myself inferior
Only that I have improved upon my own words
And that I should continue to colour the world
With the images that invade my mind.

What will you be when you grow up?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Looking to the future and setting goals,
How far should you look?
How detailed and rigid should you be?
Planning and planning ahead,
Wishing and dreaming of that someday,
When all is perfect and well in your world.
What’s stopping you from starting today?
Plan in this moment and make it happen,
Don’t map your whole life out.
Tomorrow may hold a surprise.
It could throw you for a loop,
Change your life forever.
That someday could fly out the door.
Your dreams could be paled
By the light of new opportunities,
Your wishes too small for new fortune.
All the time planning and thinking,
Wasted and thrown to the wind.
Know where you’re heading,
Where it is you’re wanting to go.
Have a few plans, but go with the flow.
Allow the Universe to give you its best,
Don’t limit the possibilities.
Go forth with all that you can
And let someday be now.
