When the lights are twinkling
and all are of good cheer,
When the dinner is plentiful
and joy is all around,
How can you say your heart’s
not in it?
Your festive spirit can’t be found.
You know that you are blessed
Others don’t have anyone in town
But still you have no feel for the season
For all that you see is money being spent,
Gifts expected and consumerism abound.
Not looking for religious reason,
But more meaning and something special today.
Looking for a missing piece,
The wherefore of it all.
Searching for the source of happiness
Found only in the act of spreading it around.
