Time for The Special Ones

The smile in my eyes began to fade
The happiness in my voice softened
And my heart started to tighten
My enthusiasm for this season waned
Late on Christmas Eve and people
Still toil away to serve others
To earn a living for food and basics
But this sadness soaks like rain
Because I know that some of them
Will have to be back tomorrow
Away from family and loved ones
Not because they do not celebrate
It has been demanded of them
To keep their employ
This is the time when we should all
Be with those who are special to us
Even if this is not our festivity
This is an opportunity to share
And may we grant this time to others.
