Lost Love Remains

He told me of a love so deep
And a missing so painful
Eight years without her
She’d scorched a path
Into the tissue of his heart
With pride he shared her photo
Longing and loneliness
The shadows in his eyes
No place for another
His memories of her
Keeping a light burning
Stories of things falling
Appearing from the world
All with a connection to her
He wanted her to talk to him
I told him that he would need to listen
All the tales he’d told to me
Sounded like messages from her
Though in body she had left him
Her spirit still remained
Her most severe pain in death
The sadness that she would leave him
Worried of a lonely existence
She extracted promises from family
To never ever leave him
And always keep in contact
Of such a great love story
I’m sure we’d all love to be a part.
