Colourful Friendship

Colourful Friendship

Your skin is the ebony to my ivory,
Another cinnamon, another chocolate.
All different and unique,
Diverse in cultures,
Our own United Nations.
Some traditional to their roots,
Others hybrids with a tinge
Of their original upbringing.
Combinations existing in harmony,
No matter appearances nor ancestry.
We join together in solidarity,
Sharing pieces of our hearts.
Friends, regardless.

Finding the Moonlight

Finding the Moonlight

She vibrates with energy
A happy-go-lucky soul
Takes what the world offers
Makes it beautiful and bright
An orange glowing sunrise
In a universe spending
More time in the darkness of night
Her vigour and glow catching
Lighting a fire inside me

I endeavour to be just like
This spirit of positivity and vivacity
Finding rainbows in salty tears
And lucky horseshoes in a frown
Every so often slipping
Failing to feel the light
Dropping into a black hole
But even in the ink of evening hours
The moon and stars still shine

The frailty of friendship

The frailty of friendship

Navigating the landmines of relationships,
Sensitivities and personalities.
On the brink of exhaustion,
Concentrated and focused
On the walk over egg shells.
Filled with good intentions
But somehow hurting and slighting
Those we try to hold close.
The effort taxing and disheartening,
We often surrender to the broken,
Leave the devastation behind us,
Try not to pack the pain into our luggage
As we move on from the failed attempt.

Looking back we see the wreckages
Of many kinships and ties,
That we did not take the effort
To fix, repair or maintain.
Like the stench of the egg gone rotten,
These shattered pieces of memories
Twist and turn our stomach.
Bits of teachings by The Universe,
Each pile of rubble you remember,
Not all meant to last forever,
Not all meant to be a walk in the park.
All meant to build your experience
Remind you of who you are meant to be.

New Believers

New Believers

A world of witches and warlocks
Pungent dragons breath
Faeries, imps and fae folk
Of magic and mystery
Once thought to only be
The contents of children’s books
Believers taken to be insane
The followers of mysticism grow
Devotees to the way of spirit
Working in the realm of love
Faith in positivity, angels and guides
Knowing of divine direction
Feeling and acting on intuition
Receiving messages from beyond
Aware of much more than some see
Seeing more than some are aware of
Enlightenment and a purpose
To save the world from itself
And to awaken mankind
To the glory that they are
And to remind them that they know this.

Let the Heart Speak

Let the Heart Speak

Energy in pain, it was never meant to be
No intention to hurt or to offend you
Misunderstanding and miscommunication
Cause the rainbow, happy fairy-dust spirit
To dull and fade with heavy sadness
Sensitivities like nerve endings exposed
Slighted by minor requests and words
Ego lobbying for a coup to dictatorship
Plotting ways to prove indisputable right
Breathing and meditation shutting it down
Love looking for mutual likable solutions
Without submission or grovelling
Equal soul presence to soul presence
Bringing back balance and harmony
Peaceful reunion to the way it was
A task only achieved by the heart.

Growing Up

Growing Up

Not yet an adult but no longer a child
In this liminal space of confusion
Puberty and adolescence
The teenage awkward stage
Of changes, hormones and talks
Embarrassment and shyness abound
Wishing the earth would swallow you
To escape mortifying parents
Trying to understand and bridge
The gargantuan generational gap
Getting larger with each propagation
Through it we survive
Transitioning to functioning adults
Ready to repeat the cycle once more.

Sorry for Me

Sorry for Me

My cup sated to overflowing
With tears for that which I don’t have
Miserable and sad
For the struggles I endure
Hunched over in defeat
Eyes covered from the world
That I missed the beauty before me
Ignored the loving I received
Forgot to be grateful
For the miracles that are mine
Drowning in self-pity
A useless act
