Rules

There are laws and rules
They make us function as society
But when do the rules themselves
Cross the lines of sanity?
Time and money wasted
On their enforcement
When the outcome required
Is but compliance with the power
There are those to be followed
For the safety of oneself
And those that keep the peace
For a multitude of different people
Residing and existing in the same space

Teach the children to respect,
Accept and tolerate each other
Never feel superior or higher
Than anybody else
And to feel and show
Respect and love for self
Give them time and love
Attention and direction
By the best example that you can
Meet their basic needs
To live a good life
Abstinence or moderation
Of addictive substances and situations
And one can hope that
Self-governance will rule and lead
Our future generations
